Netter Center Statement Against Asian and Asian-American Hate Crimes

From Ira Harkavy, Founding Director, Netter Center for Community Partnerships, its Staff and Community Advisory Board

Tuesday, March 23, 2021

Like so many others, we are horrified by the murder of eight people, including six women of Asian descent, in Atlanta. We are outraged by the alarming increase in violent racial attacks against Asians and Asian Americans, who have faced a history of exclusion, discrimination, racism and xenophobia. We strongly condemn these acts and all acts of racism and racial violence.

The Netter Center strives to be a justice- and equity-seeking organization. Since the killing of George Floyd, we have been more intentional in our efforts to help eradicate racism. We have recently formed an Anti-Racism Task Force inclusive of Netter Center staff and members of our Community Advisory Board and Student Advisory Board. We are further developing approaches, strategies, and actions to educate against and actively combat racism, violence, and bigotry in all its forms.

We mourn and stand in solidarity with our Asian-American staff, students, and partners, as well as the broader Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community at this most painful time.
