In an article for University World News, Ira Harkavy of the Netter Center for Community Partnerships and Sjur Bergan of the Council of Europe’s Education Department argue for the importance of academic freedom to democracy. “It is important for public authorities, the academic community, higher education institutions, and others to take positive action to safeguard and further the fundamental values of higher education,” they write.
