The Philadelphia Inquirer featured the Penn-West Philly Basketball League, part of the Netter Center for Community Partnerships' University-Assisted Community Schools Sports, Fitness, and Health programming. The program involves weekly practices and game days for local middle school and high school students who are coached by Penn students and Netter staff. The program is being coordinated by Netter's UACS sports, fitness, and health coordinator for grades K-8, Marquese Johnson, who had been a participant in the league when he was an eighth grader and went on to play basketball at Lehman College. The original league was founded in 2004 by Penn alum Matt Impink (C07 GED09), and Taylor Jenkins (W07), head coach for the Memphis Grizzlies, served as a co-founder.
